We'd Love to Meet You!

Visiting any church can be a difficult experience. We would like to set you at ease. Our goal is that your first visit to Black Oak Baptist would be refreshing, friendly, and enjoyable for the whole family! We want you to experience encouraging music, practical teaching and preaching, friendly people, and a genuine sense of being "at home." If there is anything we can do to make your visit more comfortable, please let us know!

What should I expect?
Our building is located on the corner of 25th Avenue and Hobart Street in the Black Oak section of Gary. There are parking spots in front of the glass doors of the building facing 25th Avenue that are designated for our guests. There is also handicap parking on the side of the building facing Hobart Street, next to a covered ramp leading into the building. Upon entering the building at either of these entrances, you will be in the main auditorium. We currently offer one service on Sunday mornings at 10:30; this is where you can expect to experience worship music, church event announcements, and Bible preaching. Each service normally lasts just over an hour. We also offer Sunday Night Bible Classes at 6PM and a Wednesday Worship Service at 7PM.

Where do I take my kids?
Starting with children who are new-born through three years old, our safe, clean nursery is available to help care for your child. Our nursery is conveniently located through the double doors to the left of the stage and straight down the hallway to the right.
For older children (age 4-4th grade), parents can keep their kids with them during the worship portion of the service. They are then dismissed just before the pastor's message to go to Junior Church where they will hear an age-appropriate Bible lesson.
None of these children's services are required. If you would be more comfortable keeping your children with you throughout the service, you are more than welcome to do so.

Am I expected to participate in the offering?
No. We don't invite you here for your offering. We want our service to be a gift to you. Please don't feel any obligation to participate in the offering as our guest.

What should I wear?
We have no required "dress-code" at Black Oak Baptist, for either members or guests. In fact, at any given service, you will see a variety of different outfits, from suit-and-tie to jeans-and-t-shirt — and everything in between. Our main goal is that you would feel welcome and comfortable on your visit here!

What is your worship style?
We incorporate a blended style of worship, which means that in a typical service we will sing both traditional hymns and modern worship songs.
